Now
Highway 101 runs through Gaviota Pass, a canyon that cuts clean through the Santa Ynez Mountains. A trail climbs to Gaviota Peak, and a hot spring sits on the east side of the highway.
To the west, the private Hollister Ranch runs almost to Point Conception, where the coast turns north.
