Privacy and security
Last updated October 12, 2026
Tides and Towns collects as little as it can. You can read every tide page without an account, and nothing on the site follows you around the web.
What we collect
- If you sign up for alerts: your email address, the station or town you chose, daily or weekly, and when you signed up, confirmed and were last sent an email. That is all, and it is used only to send the alerts you asked for.
- Your last station: a small first-party cookie (
tides_last) remembers the last station you looked at so the home page can open on it. It holds only the station number and expires after a year. - Approximate location: if you have no last station, the home page uses the city-level location our host derives from your IP address to show the nearest tide station. It isn't stored. The “near me” button asks your browser for your location only when you press it, and the coordinates are used in your browser to find nearby stations.
- Server logs: our host keeps short-lived request logs (such as IP address and page requested) for security and troubleshooting.
We don't use advertising or analytics trackers, we don't sell or share personal information, and we don't build profiles.
Who processes it
- Vercel hosts the site and serves every page.
- Supabase stores the alert sign-up list.
- Resend delivers the emails.
Tide predictions come from NOAA and weather from the National Weather Service. Those requests are made by our servers, so your browser never contacts them.
How long we keep it
- Unsubscribing deletes that sign-up right away. Every alert has a one-click unsubscribe link.
- Sign-ups never confirmed are deleted after 30 days, and their confirmation links stop working after 7.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from any email, or write to hello@tidesandtowns.com to ask what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. We'll answer within 30 days. Clearing your cookies removes the remembered station.
Affiliate links and sponsors
Some town pages carry clearly labeled sponsor lines, local picks or gear links. As an Amazon Associate, Tides and Towns earns from qualifying purchases. If you follow such a link, the other site's own privacy policy applies there.
Children
The site isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Reporting a security problem
If you find a vulnerability, please email hello@tidesandtowns.com with the details and give us a reasonable time to fix it before sharing it. Please don't access other people's data, send bulk sign-ups, or degrade the service while testing. Our security.txt has the same contact.
